Photographers: Kevin Carter
I was in a bar over the weekend enjoying a few drinks with friends when a song came on that reminded me of an idea I had for a series of posts about photographers. Everybody has their influences and sources of inspiration in photography. This particular photographer isn't so much a direct influence [on me personally] but he is undoubtedly an inspiration. If he's not an inspiration to you now,

Google Rules the world / SEO 2
This was my reaction when I found out that my website had been dropped down the Google rankings due to various [and still unknown] recent changes. A certain degree of calm and some very useful information came from John Harrington's post titled Search Engines and your Website as it also did from some recent contact I've had with my web designers who have been nothing but helpful about the whole

Model Releases and why you should have them signed
I was listening to the Jeremy Vine show on BBC Radio Two earlier today and there was a very interesting feature about greeting cards and how images are sometimes used on them. Allison Pearson of the Daily Mail was having a rant about how she didn't approve of the content of various greeting cards whilst somebody else from a card design/print company was defending their corner. You can listen to

Assisting [part two].
Further to the previous post called 'Assisting' this video from PDN Online might be of interest to you Mike. This highlights an interesting point for me in the sense that when I personally look for an assistant, one of the last things I'd be interested in, from a point of view of having an assistant working with me, is their photography. That's not to say that a photographer wouldn't help their

Trish's Family {Urban Session}
Things are starting to get busy! Yesterday I got to meet Trish, Don & Sophia. We had a great session in center city Philadelphia. It was such a beautiful day to be in the city. I was so excited when Trish said she wanted to do shots in Old City/Society Hill area. They were such a cute family! Sophia was such a sweetheart.... the only way we could get a smile out of her was for her mom to sing ABC's. Then not only did she smile she would go into a fit of laughter... too cute!
I'm getting really bad at narrowing down my favorites for a sneak peek!

Liam
Liam is my good friend Claire's son. I've been wanting to photograph him for so long. But his mom is also a photographer and, just like my kids, he also suffers from "child of a photographer" syndrome. So sad because it really doesn't get cuter than him! So today Claire and I set out to get photo's of our youngest together. Elise and Liam are about 6 months apart and so cute together. Things didn't really go as planned... the 2 of them did not want to have their picture taken, they just wanted to play and throw leaves at each other. After about 20 mins of begging and pleading for them to get close to each other and look at the camera we gave up. Plan B... I took Liam for a walk and mini photo shoot and Claire took Elise. Worked like a charm {that and the promise of a snack from Starbucks!}

Connections...
An assignment I recently finished in Cumbria, work from which can be seen in 'Portfolio 1' at my website portfolio, highlighted just how powerful photography can be when used to connect people with a subject. This is fairly apparent when you think about it but to experience it first hand and to be the one taking photographs that are making the connections is a good feeling.In Feb '08 David

Elise {mini session}
We had a girls day last sunday so of course I fit in a little photo session! I told her if she gave me 45 mins I would by her ice-cream. She gave me 30 and pulled the old "I have to go potty NOW" excuse.
LOVE her!!!
LOVE her!!!
Google Rules the world/SEO 1
OK that's an outrageous statement but there's a tiny element of truth to it if you're a photographer, particularly if you're at the early stages of your career. Or at least sometimes it feels that way. Yesterday something happened to my website that made me drop my tools and make a few frantic telephone calls. My website had dropped off the face of the earth. Well, it had dropped off the face of

Pitching and who to pitch at.
Hi AndyThanks alot for the reply and i do have lots of questions to be honest but i'll just start with one ay? I don't mind my name being shown if it goes on the blog.So my question is...The thing i'm finding hard in making steps to becoming a working photographer is approaching people or potential clients. Actually selling myself or trying to get work seems a little difficult. Could you give

Megan :: Headshots
How lucky am I?!? I keep getting these beautiful people to photograph!
How fitting that I would get someone as gorgeous as Megan on the same day I start weight watchers! I'm thinking I will call her up and offer her free session every time I start to lose my willpower. Megan is also an amazing make-up artist {contact me for her info}.
