Breaking News: Earthquake and Tsunami hits Japan  - At exactly 2:46 this afternoon an earthquake measuring 8.9 struck northeastern Japan, followed by a series of aftershocks, including one 7.4 magnitude earthquake about 30 minutes later that immediately triggered a tsunami as high as 4 meters. The quake caused buildings shook in the capital Tokyo. The quake struck at a depth of six miles (10 kilometers), about 80 miles (125 kilometers) off the east coast, the agency said. This area is 240 miles (380 kilometers) northeast of Tokyo.

"When the arrival of waves that can be generated (by the tsunami) is estimated at at 20:00 local time," the official warning issued by the government.
