Coffee the Richest Source of Antioxidants - The content of caffeine in a cup of coffee may do more than just awake. A new study published in the pages webmd.com Friday (6 / 5) shows how the antioxidants in caffeine against damage caused by free radicals.



Researcher Jorge Rafael Carmona Leon from Universidad Metropolitana-Iztapalapa Autnoma, in Mexico, to evaluate five different theoretical mechanisms of chemical reactions between free radicals and antioxidants in caffeine. Further Jorge Rafael and his fellow researchers describe how the antioxidants in caffeine destroys free radicals associated with Alzheimer's disease and heart disease.

Free radicals are molecules in the body that attack healthy cells and cause damage that causes the disease. The health benefits of antioxidants largely due to the effect that can protect cells from free radical damage.

Recent studies show that coffee is one of the richest sources of antioxidants. But little is known about how antioxidants, including caffeine, works against free radicals.
